Fairmount Weather Systems Ltd present their GPRS Automatic Weather Station to Mr Kofi Annan in support of the Weather Info For All (WIFA) Initiative launched on 18th June 2009 in Geneva Switzerland.
Fairmount Weather Systems Ltd were selected after competitive bidding, as Service Partners for the supply of GPRS Automatic Weather Stations to the GHF and have already supplied 19 stations on the pilot phase in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
Fairmount Weather Systems Ltd Managing Director, Paul Copping says, "WIFA is an innovative public private partnership that aims to fill the weather information gap throughout Africa and help mitigate the consequences of climate change. It is an honour to be chosen as Service Partners for the WIFA Project".
In his address to the 2009 Forum, Dr David Rogers, former Head of the United Kindom Meteorological Office (UKMO) and currently senior advisor to WIFA, anounced that Phase 2 of the Initiative will involve the roll out of a further 488 stations starting in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda.
Thereafter, the intention is to continue the roll out throughout the African continent to a total of about 5000 stations over the next decade.
