REACH (EU Regulation No. 1907/2006, Section 18a, Annex 17)
“Fairmount Weather Systems recognises the need to limit the impact of harmful substances (such as mercury) on human health and natural eco-systems. The EU ‘REACH’ regulations seek to limit this potential damage by controlling the safe transfer and use of these substances.
“REACH prohibits the sale of mercury filled instruments to the public within the EEA. Parties wishing to buy mercury filled products from Fairmount will need to demonstrate that they are a registered company, or are operating outside of the EEA and not offering these products to the public within the EEA.
“Fairmount has been sourcing and developing technologies not reliant on mercury for several years. However, until comparable replacement technologies are available, Fairmount expects to supply products (particularly barometers and thermometers) containing mercury, only where REACH regulations permit.
“We happily offer alternative products to members of public: make an enquiry, we look forward to advising you on the product that best meets your needs.
